You get exactly what is advertised - this is a campground that has ample room for RVs. Some of the roads had some branches that scratched the sides the RV as we tried to find our campsite in the dark. There are no hookups, but our reservation was well marked on our site even though we arrived after hours. There were a lot of family groups - it seemed that some may have had too many on a site, but it was very friendly. There was some noise way after quiet hours - mainly a radio and conversation. the pull-through spot was easy to get in and out. No view from our site #15 - just very tall reeds on the lake side and the road on the other. Some animal noise in the night. it was just an overnight stop on our way north, so it was fine. I would not stay long here.
I cannot praise this RV park enough! From my first email, to the day we pulled out, everyone was friendly and helpful. Hebgen Lake is a beautiful and peaceful lake about 7 miles from the town of West Yellowstone. We used this park as a base for our 3 days of visiting Yellowstone National Park. The drive to the park is easy, on great roads, and the West Gate to the park is a good place to start your Yellowstone adventure. The sites and roads are gravel, the view is gorgeous. We fished in the lake, ate all our meals out in the clean air. The park is very quiet, and very nice people stay here. I would make this a destination - not just a stopover. Perfect!
Now, this is not the place for everyone. Not shiny, very homey, even homely. We decided that we wanted to be in Jackson after a night at the Gros Ventre Campground in Grand Teton National Park. After a day of rafting on the Snake River, we tried to get a spot at the Virginian, which appeared to be the only RV place in town (according to AAA). We had seen the Wagon Wheel sign, so we called and they had room so we went on over, not expecting much. And its not much. But we had the nicest stay here. There are no reservations. Half of the campsites are just backed up against a fence, like storage. But our site was up against the creek (you pay $5 extra for the privilege) and it could not have been prettier (on that side of the RV). Ducks and geese and other birds are very much at home, and as soon as they floated off, an attendant came and got rid of the "mess" they made. Lots of families all around us, everyone eating outside together. The windshield of our rig was about 3 feet from the slide out of the folks next to us, but I had no complaints. The folks in the office were lovely and have taken a lot of time with the potted flowers. The campsite is associated with the Wagon Wheel Cabins/Motel. We walked a block or two to Jackson proper and had lunch and breakfast.
Antelope Island is a barren rock in the Great Salt Lake. I would imagine that in any other season, this is an amazing place to watch wildlife, and camp in solitude. In the middle of July, this place is hotter than Mars. We pulled in, noted the ONE other RV in the campsite, went to see the visitor center, and pulled out. We could not figure out what we would do for a whole day. The heat was blinding, and without any hookups, and with the showers over in the day use area, we didn't want to get stuck out there with nothing to do in the heat. Note that the campground is exactly as described on the website. The sites have a lot of room, and are a good distance from one another. The sunsets are probably spectacular. I would advise going in the spring.
